9 FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILMS VIE FOR OSCAR®

Nine films will advance to the next round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 85th Academy Awards®. Seventy-one films had originally qualified in the category.

The films, listed in alphabetical order by country, are:

Austria, “Amour,” Michael Haneke, director;
Canada, “War Witch,” Kim Nguyen, director;
Chile, “No,” Pablo Larraín, director;
Denmark, “A Royal Affair,” Nikolaj Arcel, director;

Foreign Language Film nominations for 2012 are again being determined in two phases.

THE RECORDING ACADEMY LAUNCHES “THE ARTIST INTERVIEW SERIES” ON TWITTER

Female Recording Artists Interview Each Other Via Their Twitter Handles

The Recording Academy®, with participation from Twitter, has launched “The Artist Interview Series” — a diverse group of female recording artists ranging from bona fide superstars to emerging newcomers who have been paired for an exclusive Twitter conversation. With a promotional campaign titled “#TheWorldIsListening,” the interviews will help build anticipation for the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards®, which will be held on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live in HDTV and 5.1 Surround Sound on the CBS Television Network from 8 – 11:30 p.m. (ET/PT). 7 Features Advance in Race for Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar®

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that seven films remain in competition in the Makeup and Hairstyling category for the 85th Academy Awards®.

The films are listed below in alphabetical order:

“Hitchcock”
“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”
“Les Misérables”
“Lincoln”
“Looper”
“Men in Black 3”
“Snow White and the Huntsman”

On Saturday, January 5, all members of the Academy’s Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films. Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.

The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

Oscar® Nominations Voting Opens Monday to 5,856 Academy Voters

Nominations voting for the 85th Academy Awards® will open at 8 a.m. PT, Monday, December 17, for the 5,856 voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Members will have until 5 p.m. PT, Thursday, January 3, 2013, to vote electronically or mail in a paper ballot. Any paper ballots received after the deadline will not be counted.

Nominations and final Awards ballots will be tabulated and verified by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to ensure that all aspects of the balloting process are accurate and secure.

This will be the first year the Academy is providing its membership the opportunity to vote electronically. Several voting resources will be available to members, including assisted voting stations in Los Angeles, New York and London, and a 24-hour support call center during voting periods.

282 Feature Films in Contention for 2012 Best Picture Oscar®

Two hundred eighty-two feature films are eligible for the 2012 Academy Awards®, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today.

To be eligible for 85th Academy Awards consideration, feature films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County by midnight, December 31, and begin a minimum run of seven consecutive days.

Under Academy rules, a feature-length motion picture must have a running time of more than 40 minutes and must have been exhibited theatrically on 35mm or 70mm film, or in a qualifying digital format.

Feature films that receive their first public exhibition or distribution in any manner other than as a theatrical motion picture release are not eligible for Academy Awards in any category. The “Reminder List of Productions Eligible for the 85th Academy Awards” is available at

70th annual Golden Globe Awards Nominations

The 70th annual Golden Globe Awards, will be held 13 Jan 2013 in Beverly Hills, CA, broadcast on NBC and hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Nominations for the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Nominees were introduced by Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Aida Takla-O’Reilly along with Megan Fox, Ed Helms and Jessica Alba.
