UNCSA’s “The Nutcracker” is almost here!

UNCSA's "The Nutcracker" is almost here! The countdown is on to the seasonal debut of the most exciting Nutcracker in North Carolina! The University of North Carolina School of the Arts’ (UNCSA’s) cherished production of Tchaikovsky’s classic comes to life for nine magical performances, opening on Saturday, December 8th.

From December 8-16 ONLY at the Stevens Center in Winston-Salem.

This year, two of world’s greatest ballet stars –
Veronika Part
and Charles Askegard – will grace the stage at the Stevens Center as guest stars in The Nutcracker for TWO PERFORMANCES ONLY. Part (Principal, American Ballet Theatre) and Askegard (Principal, New York City Ballet) will dance the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier Prince at the performances on December 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m.

The UNCSA Nutcracker Orchestra will be under the direction of celebrated ballet conductor Charles Barker (Principal Conductor, American Ballet Theatre). UNCSA’s production is the only Nutcracker in the Triad to be performed to live orchestra.

Staged and co-choreographed by Ethan Stiefel, (Artistic Director, Royal New Zealand Ballet and Principal Dancer, American Ballet Theatre), UNCSA’s The Nutcracker has received unanimous critical acclaim and delighted audiences. Last year, the Winston-Salem Journal raved that UNCSA’s production of The Nutcracker “enchants and enthralls…. sweeping us up in a spell.”

UNCSA’s acclaimed Nutcracker enjoyed several sold-out performances in 2011, and ticket sales are fast outpacing this date last year. Don’t miss your chance to attend one of North Carolina’s most eagerly anticipated events of the holiday season.

One of the finest conservatories in the country, UNCSA trains its students as professional artists. The Schools of Dance, Design and Production, and Music present the annual production of The Nutcracker with proceeds benefiting scholarships. The student dancers, musicians and stage technicians are on the cusp of brilliant careers.

See the future stars of tomorrow and today’s dance phenomenons in UNCSA’s The Nutcracker! December 8-16 at the Stevens Center in Winston-Salem.
