The Panthers Pull One Out

First and foremost, we at K*Chele want to extend our deepest sympathies to Adrian Peterson during this horrible time, dealing with the loss of his precious son. It took a tremendous amount of courage to play in today’s game. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and friends.

The Carolina Panthers went to Minnesota on a mission this week. That mission was accomplished. Both teams have had a struggling season and had the matching 1-3 records to show for it. The Panthers and the Vikings both needed a win to grab a foothold for the remaining season. Carolina silenced the Minnesota Mall of American Field with a 35-10 win.

The Panthers were consistent this week, a completely different team than what we saw in Arizona on Week 5. Cam Newton completed 20 of 26 passes for 242 yards and had no interceptions. Newton threw 3 touchdown passes to Steve Smith, Mike Tolbert and Brandon Lafell and ran for another score. Vikings QB Matt Cassel completed 32 passes for 241 yards, but threw 2 interceptions, both resulting in Panthers touchdowns.

Carolina was nearly unrecognizable against the Vikings. They completed two 4th down conversions in the same drive to put their first TD on the board. The red zone, where the Panthers usually fall apart, is where they got down to business. The Panthers got the lead, kept it and extended it to pull in their first victory on the road this season.

Next week the Panthers will host the St. Louis Rams. The Rams (3-3) will be traveling to Charlotte after their win over the Houston Texans this week. Was this week’s win over the Viking’s the turning point for the Panthers? Are they going to show consistency with every game and play like the winning team they can be? That’s still up for debate until we see the Panthers win back to back games for a few weeks. Carolina’s remaining schedule includes match-ups with the 49ers, Patriots and Saints…all games that will push the limits for the Panthers.
