After initial reports of a public service at the 18,000 seat Prudential Center in New Jersey, Houston’s family released an announcement stating: the services will be private, and held on Saturday at the church where Houston sang growing up.
The service will be held at Newark’s New Hope Baptist Church, which holds an estimated 1,500 people, for invited guests only. However, it will be broadcast live. Funeral director Carolyn Whigham, who is handling the services said, “Her publicist has chosen one person who will be allowed into the sanctuary and who will be streaming (video) to you all.”
Whigham added that jumbo screens would be set up outside the New Hope Baptist Church, allowing fans of the singer to watch the ceremony. The ceremony is said to begin at noon (1700 GMT).
A-listers on the guest list are said to include: Aretha Franklin, Jesse Jackson and Tyler Perry among others.
TMZ reported: Houston will be buried in the family plot near her father at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, about 10 miles from the church.
