BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Grammy® Award-winning singer-songwriter Norah Jones will perform “Everybody Needs a Best Friend” from the motion picture “Ted,” telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today. “Everybody Needs a Best Friend,” with music by Walter Murphy and lyrics by Seth MacFarlane, is nominated for an Original Song Oscar. This will be Jones’s first time performing on an Oscar show.
“I had such a great time recording this song with Seth, and was thrilled to find out that it was nominated for an Oscar,” said Jones. “Getting to perform it at such a prestigious event, which my friend is hosting, is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Actors Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana will host the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Scientific and Technical Awards on Saturday, February 9, at The Beverly Hills Hotel. They will present nine awards to 25 individual recipients during the evening.
“We are thrilled to have Chris and Zoe host the Sci-Tech Awards,” said Academy President Hawk Koch. “Their film experience with the kind of technical advancements these awards honor makes them the perfect pair for the job.”

Tony® Award-winning production designer Derek McLane will serve as designer for the 85th Academy Awards® telecast, show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today. This will be McLane’s first time designing an Oscar set.
“Derek is one of our most talented set designers, and we had a very successful collaboration with him on our recent Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying,” said Zadan and Meron. “We were very eager to reunite with him, and we believe he’ll bring a fresh perspective to the Oscar telecast.”
Over his career, McLane has designed sets for numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, several of which have been nominated for Tony Awards. He received four nominations and won Best Scenic Design of a Play in 2009 for his work on 33 Variations. McLane’s other Broadway credits include The Heiress, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, Follies, Anything Goes, Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, Grease and I Am My Own Wife.
The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.
Michael B. Seligman has been named supervising producer of the 85th Academy Awards® telecast, marking his 36th year of association with the show, telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today.
“Michael Seligman is the go-to guy of live television who has shepherded more live events than anyone we know,” said Zadan and Meron. “We feel exceptionally lucky to have him on our team.”
With more than 300 major television events to his credit, Seligman specializes in producing live broadcasts throughout the world. In December, he will again serve as executive producer for NBC’s two-hour live show “The American Giving Awards.”
